Iron Maiden’s private jet is too heavy to land at a German airport

Looks like the Flight of Icarus might be delayed

Ever wanted to see Iron Maiden’s private jet? Well, today’s your lucky day. Take a look at Ed Force One. Correct us if we’re wrong, but we’re reasonably sure that it’s a little bit better than a tour bus. It’s definitely a bit bigger than your average bus – it’s 232 feet long, 63 feet high, and it weighs 176 tonnes:

Pretty cool, eh?

That must make it a lot easier for the band to get from city to city on their The Book Of Souls World Tour right? Well, not quite. As first reported by Spiegel (and translated by Bravewords), the band’s new plane is actually too heavy to land at Germany’s Dortmund Airport ahead of the band’s scheduled appearance at the country’s Rock im Revier Festival in May. The band will instead need to fly into a different airport a day ahead of schedule, before getting on a lowly tour bus and heading to the festival site.

First world problems

Let’s just hope that they don’t have the same problem before their headline set at this summer’s Download Festival. The band will be bringing their The Book Of Souls World Tour to Donington Park on Sunday the 12th of June, and we think that they’re going to be absolutely fantastic. It’ll be their only UK show of the year, their sixth time headlining Download, and their first UK show since frontman Bruce Dickinson’s well-reported battle with illness – you’d be a fool to miss it.
